Today is Diane's birthday, and this year she is celebrating at the beach with her boyfriend Jack. As the two enjoy a wonderful afternoon, Jack suggests that the two take a stroll around the beach. Diane agrees, and the two walk down the beach hand in hand.
As they are walking, Jack notices a bottle sticking out of the sand. "Look! What's that?" he says, and approaches the bottle. Once in hand, Diane notices that there is a scrolled piece of paper inside and asks Jack to get it out. Jack does as she requested and unfolded the paper. "It's a map! Oh how fun, a treasure map!" says Diane as she inspects the markings on the sheet. She giggles and playfully jabs Jacks side as she is no fool and knows he planned this little scheme. Jack laughs and claims not to have a clue but suggest they follow the map just in case.
Diane continues to smile and then looks down at the maps to figure out the first marker (A totem pole inside a hut). A bit confused, she decides to just follow the dotted line toward the marking and hope she sees something. As she had expected, the line brought the couple straight toward the marker; a hut shaped restaurant with totem poles at the entrance. Diane looked at Jack, and he simply suggested they stop for a bite to eat. With a smile, She agreed.
The two enjoyed their meal, but it was clear to see Diane was antsy to finish the map. As Diane was hopping in her seat, the waitress came around with the check presenter and set it in front of Diane. "A key!" exclaimed Diane as she opened the presenter. After paying, Diane nearly dragged Jack out of the restaurant in anticipation and it was clear to see she was having a very fun time.
The couple again followed the line toward the now second marker, this time represented by a beach ball, and ran into a beach rental shop. Diane hustled inside. There she saw a wall of locker. Now sure of what to do, she hurried to find the locker that match the number on her key. She did, and immediately opened it to find a small hand shovel tucked inside. On the shovel, she noticed something etched on it; 3R23 2L16 1R4. Paying little head to the inscription, Diane took the shovel.
Again wasting no time to get to her final destination, the X, the two followed the map. The couple laugh and play as they approach the last marker isolated far along the beach, and once again it's easy to see Diane is enjoying herself as much as ever. Finally, Diane finds it. In the sand she sees two large sticks panned out in the shape of an "X". Excited, She begins digging up the soft sand. Then, she strikes hard surface.
Giggling the whole time, Diane remove the "treasure box." Much to her surprise, she find the box is closed shut by a combination lock. "That's what the shovel means, it's a combination!" says Diane as she picks up the shovel to get the code. Jack inches closer as she is now very close to opening the box, and then she does.
She lets out a soft gasp as she opens the box and Jack's present was revealed. "Happy Birthday Diane" says Jack as Diane runs into his arms. "Thank you so much" she replied, "this is the greatest birthday I've had in a very long time." The couple shared a passionate kiss, then laid together on the dunes as they watched the sunset on a beautiful beach birthday.

1. Set up a day at the beach with your significant other.
2. Then, draw out a map and put it in the bottle. *Note: When choosing the symbols of your map markers, make certain that you choose features that are easily recognizable.
3. Put the gift into the "treasure box" and lock it with a combination lock.
4. Etch the lock combination onto the hand shovel.
Now that you've completed all the preliminaries, here are the setup step you need to do the day of.
5. Setup a bottle in the sand. Make certain it is somewhere where it wont get picked up by someone else.
6. Rent out a locker at a beach rental shop and put the shovel in the locker.
7. Next, bury the "treasure" on an isolated part of the beach where no people will come around and mark it with an "X". Use stick, sea shells, etc. Do some scouting, but these spots will be easier to find than you think.

8. Once on the beach, suggest taking a stroll around the beach. Walk toward the bottle and point it out.
9. Take out the map and suggest following it.
10. Once you're at the restaurant, stop for a bite to eat.
11. While you're eating, excuse yourself to the "bathroom" and instead find your server. Give her the key to the locker and explain that you would like her to bring it in the check presenter.
12. Once you have the key, continue your scavenger hunt and retrieve the hand shovel.
13. Now head toward your final destination, the "X"!
14. Once she starts digging, all that's left to do is wait for her to find her romantic birthday gift; her treasure.
