BIRTHDAY CAKE
a romantic birthday proposal

Today is Lauren's birthday, and Neil has planned to take her and a close group of family and friends out for dinner and dancing. It's a very nice restaurant, so Lauren is taking some extra time to get ready and puts on her favorite dancing dress. Neil arrives, and Lauren greets him at the front door.

Once opened, she is delighted to see her beau standing with a bouquet of flowers. She accepts the beautiful arrangement, and the two walk toward the car. She is taken a back this time however, as she noticed instead a limousine. She gave a light giggle as she looked up at Neil, and the two got inside.

Inside, she was again delighted to see her family and friends already inside shouting "happy birthday!," blowing horns, and enjoying champagne as she entered. Everything off to a good start, the group happily made their way to the restaurant.

Once there, the party was immediately taken to their seats and the fun and laughter continued to soar around the table as everyone completed their meals. Now finished, it was time to open presents. Lauren began getting handed gifts, and opened them gratefully one by one. The pattern continued until all the gifts had been handed out except for Neil's. He realized this saying "Oh, I guess mine is the only one left!" and stood up slowly as to get his gift.

Instead, however, he was interrupted by a collection of restaurant staff holding a closed birthday cake box and singing happy birthday. Lauren turned as the choir was singing behind her and enjoyed the song. Everyone at the table is now joined in, and at the last note of the song the waiters open the box. With a shocked smile, she read the note written on the cake: I love you Lauren, will you marry me?

She turned back around toward Neil who was now lowered on one knee with the engagement ring presented. Before he had the time to speak, Lauren said "Yes, yes of course!" and happily fell into his arms. Whistles and clap erupted around them as Neil slipped the ring on her finger and the two shared a joyous kiss. And as the couple held each other that night on the dance floor, it was plain to see they had never felt so close or been so in love.
